»Ab sofort gibt es wieder eine aktuelle Ausgabe der Wikipedia zur Offline-Nutzung. Angespornt durch den großen Erfolg seiner CD-Ausgabe im Herbst 2004, hat der Verlag Directmedia Publishing mit Unterstützung der Wikipedia-Gemeinschaft jetzt eine DVD-Version herausgegeben, auf der nun über 200.000 Artikel (Inhalte der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia vom 3. März 2005) enthalten sind. Die DVD ist unter Windows, Linux und Mac nutzbar und enthält darüber hinaus auch Ausgaben der freien Enzyklopädie für PDAs und moderne Mobiltelefone.« [mehr bei Wikipedia, wir berichteten].
Die DVD wird es laut Pressemitteilung auch zum kostenlosen Download geben – wenn die Wikipedia-Server für den erwarteten Riesenandrang gerüstet sind. Übrigens eine großartige Gelegenheit für alle, die uns damals beim berüchtigten ersten »1984«-Download so großartig geholfen haben, mal endlich wieder ein paar Dutzend GigaByte Traffic zu verbraten [ab hier motivierende Musik...]

How it works:
To qualify for the free Second Shot exam, you must first register for this offer with Microsoft.
Upon registration, you will be provided with a promotional code that you must use when registering for your original exam through the Pearson VUE Web site, call center or test center. Make sure you have the promo code available prior to registering.
In the event that you do not pass the exam, you must contact the Pearson VUE call center to schedule your Second Shot exam. Tell the call center agent you are taking part in the Second Shot promotion. Please wait one day after the failed exam to allow your test results to be entered into the system. Da kann man mal sehen, dass man aus gesammelten Aufklärungsdaten auch etwas sinnvolles und, wie ich finde, spannendes machen kann:

Nicht nur für den Download, auch für den Betrieb ist eine nach oben offene Bandbreite mehr als angebracht. Aber cool isses schon, besonders wenn man einen Hang zum “Landkartenfetischismus” hat (so wie ich).
